Pattern #1993

Both these examples are constructed from my "Investment for the Nineties" Pattern #1993. In both examples, a medium-sized Batik from Java was used for the back and fabrics that coordinate with the Batik were used to develop a striking front and back band combination. The back and front bands in example #1 use a variety of scrap fabric that set off the colors in the Batik on the back. I used some of those same fabrics to incorporate points into the white fabric strips on the vests front right side. Example #2 I call "Fishing on the 4th of July". I loved the Batik that I have on the back and worked from there using fabrics that I already had. The wave accent on the front was developed using a navy Deco Glaze and appliquéing them on by hand. This vest design has a wonderful collar that gives the vest a formal look, but the construction of this collar is so easy. The collar is not a separate pieced attached but part of the front vest pieces folded over and sewn into the shoulder seam. Yes, the collar is the lining fabric! Take a look at the back examples and you will see that the collar does not extend around the neck. Really easy, but a great look. The cut of the vest was designed to have a slimming effect by the use of side panels (see below, left) that can be expanded to fit most body shapes and the front drop cut is a wonderful slimming design (multi-sized). The vest closures are simple loops with buttons or no closure at all as in example #2.
